Paws in Shelters is a project by a group of loosely organized residents of Rensselaer County, New York, calling itself "Animal Shelter Committee of Rensselaer County".
Committee participants are concerned about the welfare of our companion cats and dogs and the facilities available to them when they become lose, are found to be stray, or experience abuse.
The group was initiated after the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society informed the County and Town officials of Rensselaer County that it could no longer take in animals from the county of Rensselaer, as it was experiencing overcrowding of its own facilities. This notification happened in November of 2022 and took effect in January of 2023.
